Google Wave Is Dead: Now What? - hancockfastir

While real few of you may be peeling tears over the dying of Google Wave, or even knew what it was, we probably haven't seen the unlikely of this service. The search giant says the technology behind its ill-omened collaboration tool volition last in young products that have not yet been announced. Google International Relations and Security Network't giving any hints about what new those new products might be or how they would benefit from Wave features. Just caller CEO Eric Schmidt new said the Wave squad would constitute moving over to other products that are "like Wave but practical in other areas," according to a YouTube video posted by TechCrunch's MG Siegler.

And so what might those other areas be that could benefit from Roll engineering science? The most likely candidate could be Google's rumored Facebook competitor, Google ME.

It's unclear at this point what Google Me would be like or how it would differ from Buzz and Orkut, Google's other two social applications.

Nevertheless, there's a lot about Wave that would make sense in a social networking service. When Google original debuted Wave last Crataegus oxycantha, PCWorld's Ed Albro same Wave could embody a great resolution for "sharing content with lone the people you choose." With networks like Seethe Oregon Facebook you buttocks restrict your posts supported settings much as common (everyone can see it), only your friends Oregon pre-defined groups supported along your friends inclination. Wave, meanwhile, allowed you to pick specific people to admit in a Moving ridge promptly and easily in a manner similar to creating mathematical group e-mail.

Wave was also a platform for third-party developers to extend Wave's functionality with Web-based applications. If Wave's extensibility could be folded into the rumored Google Me that would go a long way to appeasing developers who've already set out metre and energy into developing for Wave. Extensions that might fit in with a social network could include apps for traveling or upshot planning, games and paradigm redaction.

Part of Facebook's success has been its ability to attract third-party developers to create indeed-called Facebook applications look-alike games, Microsoft's Docs for Facebook and quizzes (such as PCWorld's recent Microcomputer IQ test).

Wave could also live on in established Google products like Gmail (imagine replaying a threaded conversation), Google Docs surgery even as a photo-sharing joyride in Picasa.   But if Undulation technology is being secondhand for a completely New service, my bet would get on Google Pine Tree State.

Google says Wave's Website at undulate.Google.com will continue live until at least the ending of the year. The look for giant also plans on creating tools that testament make it easy for you to exportation your data down of Google Wave.
